Photos of Mohamed Salah with green laser lights all over his face were awash on social media, as the Liverpool forward lost to his teammate Sadio Mane for the second time in as many months for another massive price.

Egyptian players had to endure laser lights on their faces for most of the game and most importantly during the post-match penalty shootout as they lost 3-1 to Senegal who in turn advanced to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Photos of Mohamed Salah with green laser lights all over his face were awash on social media, as the Liverpool forward lost to his teammate Sadio Mane for the second time in as many months for another massive price.

In February, Mane scored the winning penalty as Senegal beat Salah’s Egypt to clinch their first Africa Cup of Nations title and on Tuesday, scored the winning kick as Senegal progressed to the World Cup for the third time in their history.

The game was forced to penalties after Senegal won 1-0 at home to send the game 1-1 on aggregate. They scored in the fourth minute of the match, but there were no more open play goals in regulation and added time.

In the shootout, both teams missed their first two kicks. Kalidou Koulibaly struck the crossbar for Senegal before Saliou Ciss saw his effort saved. For Egypt, Salah blazed his effort over the bar with laser lights dancing all over his face before Ahmed Mostafa ‘Zizo’ struck wide.

Ismaila Sarr then stepped up to net the first penalty of the shoot-out, scoring the third for the Senegalese with Ahmed El Solia responding for Egypt. Bamba Dieng scored the fourth and they were handed a massive boost when Edouard Mendy saved Mostafa Mohamed’s attempt.

It was now up to Mane to score the decider, and the Liverpool forward made no mistake.

In regulation time, Senegal had scored in the fourth minute, just about the same time Egypt scored in the first leg. Boulaye Dia made the most of a defensive lapse to score and level the tie on aggregate.
