Calls for proper planning and communication come at a time when the federation has had to extend the mandate of the current office for a third time

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) league matches scheduled for 7 April have been shelved and, in their place, the Paul Bitok National Volleyball tournament will be played.

The tournament initially set for Kiminini on 8 and 9 April, preceded by the league matches on Friday has been moved to Nairobi.

Organizers, on Tuesday 28 March while making the announcement indicated that the event would be held at Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums. The women are expected to be held at Kasarani with men doing battle at Nyayo.

The move has, however, been met with criticism from some quarters as many feel that the interruption of the calendar will prevent the federation from sticking to plans to align with FIVB

“Our league is running out of time and with club championships around the corner we might find ourselves extending the league past the FIVB schedule for leagues. There is also no direction. We have witnessed a lot of confusion even beyond this tournament,” one of the stakeholders remarked after the development.

Calls for proper planning and communication come at a time when the federation has had to extend the mandate of the current office for a third time. A Special General Meeting has been convened for 1 April with the sole agenda of presenting and adopting the federation’s amended constitution.

The move to have the league held in Kiminini was met with similar criticism as many felt the need to continue with the trend of playing league matches indoors and leave the outdoor events to tournaments geared towards grassroot development.

Registration for the tournament is expected to close on Friday 31 March with the draw for Wednesday next week at 2:00 pm.

The winners from either category will walk home with Ksh. 100,000 with the first runner-up getting Ksh.50 000. Outstanding individuals will also be feted.
