Japanese player Yuto Kusaba intends to build on his Football Kenya Federation Premier League debut and fire his club, Nairobi City Stars to unrivaled success.

Kusaba belatedly made his league bow last weekend, coming off the bench in the 77th minute in City Stars’ barren draw against Shabana at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

He replaced forward Dennis Oalo who skippered the team on the particular day in the closing stages of the second half.

Despite failing to score or bag an assist in his first day in the Premier League, Kusaba was satisfied with his performance and vowed to contribute more in the remainder of the season.

“It felt nice to finally play at this level as I had been waiting for this opportunity,” he told club media.

With City Stars who are winless in the last two matches set to face Bandari this weekend, the player hopes to fire the team back to winning ways.

“The Shabana game was competitive and it gave me an idea of what I need to do to approach the upcoming games. I hope to build upon this first game and get City Stars back to winning ways,” he stated.

Yuto joined City Stars in the offseason in August 2023 but was registered in the current mid-transfer that opened in January 2024.

Yuto became the seventh City Stars player to be introduced to the Kenyan top flight this season, and the 20th by coach Nicholas Muyoti in the past three seasons.

Wycliffe Omondi, Gilbert Abala, Brian Mose Nyambane and Brian Mzee made their debuts in matchday one against Muhoroni Youth, while the duo of Abuyeka Kubasu and Robinson Asenwa got their maiden games in matchday four against Gor Mahia.
