Passenga caused the upset of the day, eliminating pre-match favorites Kisumu 4-3 on post-match penalties after the sides had tied 1-1 in regulation time in a KSSSA Boys' football semifinal match at the Machakos School on Friday.

It was a balanced encounter, each side giving as good as it got.

Passenga's John Avire tested Kisumu Day 'keeper Gad Matthew with a fierce shot midway through the first half but Matthew showed the presence of mind to deal with the effort.

K.D marksman Dennis Ochieng was shackled by Passenga, handing an opportunity for Silverster Sulwe and Said Tsuma to play a more prominent role in the match.

The match would ebb and flow towards half time, a barren stalemate thus far.

Avire would score a wonder goal on 62 minutes, cutting in from the left flank, beating his markers before unleashing a rasping shot past  Matthew in the Kisumu goal.

K.D were still in it, keeping their composure and would draw level in the 75th minute when Guyo Abdillahi let loose a rising shot that dipped past a stranded Dennis Likoko in the Passenga goal.

There was little to separate the two sides at the close of regulation and extra time and matters had to resolve by way of the lottery that is the penalty shootout.

Matthew opened the scoring for Kisumu with Sulwe and Amos Ogada also successful with their kicks while Francis Katheru, Ezekiel Nyati  and Kassim Hassan made no mistake for Passenga before the drama unfolded.

Kisumu's Ochieng would miss his penalty but his Passenga counterpart Joseph Wewe returned the compliment, shooting into Matthew's arms.

The onus was now on K.D skipper Tsuma to keep his side's hopes alive but his kick hit the post, handing the advantage to Passenga who eventually pulled off the result when James Kinyanjui planted his effort past Matthew, setting up the final date against Laiser Hill on Saturday.
