Up next for KPA, who are in Pool A of the East Division qualifiers are the NBA Academy and South African champions Cape Town Tigers.
Outplayed, outshot, outscored.
That pretty sums up Kenya Ports Authority (KPA)’s display in their Basketball Africa League (BAL) Elite16 opener in Johanesburg, South Africa on Tuesday afternoon.
The Kenyan champions were flattened by Burundian side Urunani 72-43 in a match in which they were simply second best.
The Burundians led from gun to tape, building on a 36-13 lead at the interval to put the matter beyond doubt with the comprehensive margin of victory at full time.
American import George Williams top scored for Mombasa based KPA, contributing `13 points while Landry Ndikumana top scored from the Burundians with 18 points.
Up next for KPA, who are in Pool A of the East Division qualifiers are the NBA Academy and South African champions Cape Town Tigers.
To qualify for the Elite 16, KPA played in Group D of the qualifiers, winning one game and losing the other.
They got off to a roaring start obliterating Djabal Basket Iconi (Comoros) 120-37 before losing 66-60 to Club Omnisports de la Police (COSPN).
