Kenya's rising star, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, has been nominated for the Male Athlete of the Year award in recognition of his impressive performances in the 800m.

Multiple 1500m Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon has been nominated for the world female athlete of the year award. She is up against Olympic champion and world 10,000m record holder Beatrice Chebet, while 20-year-old 800m Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi was the sole male Kenyan athlete nominated for this year’s prestige award.

2024 has been an exceptional year for Kipyegon, who won gold medal in the 1500m at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first athlete to win three consecutive gold medals in the event and setting a new Olympic record of 3:51:29. She also won a silver medal in the 5000m race, with Beatrice Chebet taking gold in a controversial race that saw Kipyegon initially disqualified before her reinstatement.

Additionally, Kipyegon triumphed in the Diamond League 2024 series, finishing first at the meetings in Paris and Brussels. At her season finale during the ATHLOS women only challenge in USA, she dazzled the field with her electrifying performance. Remarkably, she has not lost a single race in 1500m since 2021.

Beatrice Chebet, a compatriot of Faith Kipyegon and a double Olympic champion, has also earned a spot on the prestigious list. Joining her in the lineup is Julien Alfred from St. Lucia, who stunned the world by clinching the 100m title at the Paris Olympics, overcoming fierce competition.
