Ferdinand Omanyala and Faith Kipyegon were crowned the 2021 Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year respectively at the SOYA Awards in Kakamega County on Tuesday 25 January 2022.
Ferdinand Omanyala and Faith Kipyegon were crowned the 2021 Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year respectively at the SOYA Awards in Kakamega County on Tuesday 25 January 2022.
Omanyala had a stellar year in 2021, reaching the 100m semifinal at the Tokyo Olympics before going on to become the first Kenyan sprinter to break the 10 second barrier, eventually shattering the African record with a time of 9.77 seconds at the KipKeino Classic in Nairobi.
Kipyegon successfully defended her Olympic 1500m title in Tokyo, having earlier achieved the fourth-fastest time in history in a Kenyan record time of 3 minutes 51.07 seconds.
