Kenyan 800m runner Kipyegon Bett tragically passed away on October 6, 2024. The news of his death was shared by fellow athlete Kipruto Kisele via Facebook around 9 PM on Sunday.
Bett, 26, was a gifted middle-distance runner, specializing in the 800m. He rose to prominence in 2016 when he won gold in the 800m at the World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The previous year, he had claimed silver at the 2015 World Youth Championships in Colombia.
In 2017, Bett's career saw further success when he won the IAAF Diamond League event in Shanghai with a time of 1:44.70, and later that year, he earned a bronze medal at the World Championships in London. However, his journey was interrupted in 2018 when he tested positive for a banned substance, resulting in a four-year suspension.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
