FKF Premier League leaders Kenya Police FC suffered a blow in their title pursuit after falling 1–0 to Ulinzi Stars in the Kenya Forces Derby held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, Nairobi.
The win couldn’t have come at a better time for Ulinzi Stars. The four-time Kenyan champions had gone five matches without a victory and hadn’t won since relocating their home fixtures to Lang’ata in mid-February. But all that changed just after the break, thanks to a swift move and calm finish from team captain Boniface Muchiri, who breathed new life into their season.
The breakthrough came less than a minute into the second half. A clever play saw Ochieng slip the ball to winger Masita Mutheli on the right flank. Mutheli outpaced his marker and delivered a pinpoint cross to Muchiri, who calmly slotted it home for his third goal of the season.
From there, Ulinzi managed the game with discipline and composure. Despite a late push and tactical changes from Kenya Police, the hosts stayed organized at the back. Goalkeeper Stephen Emuria had a largely quiet evening, as the visitors struggled to create clear-cut chances.
The result dents Kenya Police’s title charge. They remain at the top of the FKF Premier League table with 49 points from 27 matches, but second-placed Tusker FC now trail by just one point—and have a game in hand. Defending champions Gor Mahia are also in the mix, sitting third with 46 points from 25 matches and two games in hand.
Elsewhere at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, former AFC Leopards midfielder Owen Mboya scored the decisive goal as Posta Rangers edged Leopards 1–0. Mboya combined well with Shami Mwinyi to score in the 10th minute, securing the Mailmen their seventh win of the season.
