KCB and Mara Sugar FC players observed a one minute of silence for the departed Ezekiel Otuoma before their league match on Saturday.
KCB ended their five-match winless streak in style, defeating Mara Sugar 4-3 at the Sportpesa Arena in Murang’a. KCB’s midfielder James Kinyanjui was the star of the match, scoring two goals and providing an assist to earn the Man of the Match (MOTM) honors.
KCB coach Patrick Odhiambo made two changes to his starting lineup, bringing in Faraj Ominde and Stephen Etyang’ to replace Brian ‘Rio’ Ochieng’ and Derrick Otieno.
Mara were the first to take the lead in the 12th minute through Mike Isabwa, but KCB responded quickly, with midfielder James Kinyanjui scoring his first goal of the day. Ten minutes later, Francis Kahiro put KCB ahead with the teams going into the break on a 2-1 scoreline.
Just after the restart, Kinyanjui completed his brace to give KCB a 3-1 lead. However, Mara Sugar midfielder Matthew Isogol pulled one back in the 53rd minute, narrowing the gap to 3-2.
In the 80th minute, substitute Patrick Otieno made it 4-2, scoring from a fantastic counterattack with Danson Namasaka providing the assist. Mara continued to pressure KCB’s defense and in the second minute of stoppage time, Reuben Mita scored to make it 4-3. However, it was too late for Mara to salvage a point.
In Dandora, Benjamin Mosha and John Otieno scored as Sofapaka defeated Bidco United 2-0. KCB will now finish the year on top of the table with 27 points, tied with second placed Tusker who have a game in hand.
