KCB qualified for the finals after an excellent run in the playoffs, defeating Kenya Army with a commanding 3-1 victory in the second leg of the quarters

National volleyball defending champions KCB are in pursuit of their second consecutive league title as they face Kenya Prisons in the Kenya Volleyball Federation League playoffs finals this weekend.

The bankers, who clinched the coveted league title last year after a 15-year wait, are eager to extend their impressive run under the guidance of head coach Japheth Munala. Their rivals, led by coach Josp Baraza, are expected to provide stiff competition.

During a training session at the Kasarani Stadium, Munala urged his team to remain focused and not rest on their laurels if they are to reclaim the title.

“We are preparing for the final match of this season’s playoffs. We are meeting an experienced team, and it is going to be a tough match, but we are training well to win it. We are focusing on our services, defense, and offense,” Munala remarked.

KCB qualified for the finals after an excellent run in the playoffs, defeating Kenya Army with a commanding 3-1 victory in the second leg of the quarters, following a 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-18) sweep in the first leg.

In the semifinals held last weekend, the team triumphed 3-2 over a resilient DCI side in the first leg. In the return leg, the bankers showcased their strength by sweeping the detectives 3-0 (25-20, 20-19, 25-9) to secure their spot in the finals.

“We are dealing with injuries at the moment. Our captain has a swollen knee, but we are hopeful she will be back before the match. Our right attacker is injured, while Chumba is overcoming her injury. Despite these challenges, we remain optimistic about playing well and winning the championship again,” Munala added.

The team will face Kenya Prisons on Friday at 2 pm in the first leg, followed by the second leg at the same time on Saturday. Both matches will be held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
