KCB East Africa Golf Tour to traverse six Countries
Over the years, KCB has sunk over 300 million shillings in support of golf in addition to supporting other sports disciplines including Volleyball, Rugby and Motorsport.
KCB Bank has this week announced the commencement of an International Tournament set to traverse six countries and 12 counties in Kenya.
Dubbed the East African Golf Tour, the tournament will receive a 60 Million shillings sponsorship support from KCB with Kenya enjoying the majority share of 18 legs while Uganda and Tanzania will host two legs each.
Rwanda , Burundi and DRC will each host one leg of the amateur tournament whose Grande finale will be held at The Nairobi’s Karen Country Club in November of 2023.
Besides the main amateur series action, there will be clinics for women and juniors on Fridays and Sundays respectively. Additionally, and as a way of encouraging future generations, handicapped Junior golfers will play concurrently with the amateurs throughout the tour.
200 golfers from over 40 teams across East African region are expected to take part in the Pro-Am even with winning golfers from each series converging at Karen Country Club for the finale.
Organizers of the tournament have also announced that 1.5 million trees will be planted during the series as part of the Bank’s greening commitment.
In a speech on Tuesday in Nairobi during the official launch of the tournament, KCB Group Human Resources Director, Japheth Achola said: “We have a rich history and connection with the game of golf over the years and we have been instrumental in creating opportunities for hundreds of golfers, enabling them to hone their skills and eke a living out of it.”
Achola added that “We believe that golf has evolved tremendously, and it is now time for the sport to thrive beyond our borders. We look forward to providing junior golfers, women, and amateurs with an opportunity to showcase their skills and be part of the history makers,”
“With the KCB East Africa Golf Tour, we are looking at creating memorable connections as well as sharpening our skills with a long-term goal of demystifying the game of golf. We want to ensure that even as we enjoy ourselves at the different amazing courses, we also take care of our environment which has become an important conversation across the world. The series is therefore a convenient platform to support this agenda,” Japheth added.
Also in attendance during the launch was Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Youth, Affairs, Sports, and the Arts Ababu Namwamba who reiterated his ministry’s commitment towards supporting talent development.
Namwamba commended KCB Bank for its 30 years support to the sports sector in Kenya noting that it has gone a long way in building careers and positioning Kenya as a regional and global sports powerhouse.
