Speaking to Michezo Afrika after the match, Kayole coach Mary Adhiambo expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance.
Kayole Starlets FC bounced back from derby defeat last week, thrashing coast based MTG 4 – 0 in the Women National Super League Match played on November 3rd, 2024, at the Calvary Grounds Kayole.
The home side was eager to make an impact and quickly pressured MTG straight from kickoff, but the threat was cleared. Kayole dominated the play throughout and finally managed to get a penalty in the 21st minute when midfielder Nuru Hadima was fouled inside the box. Striker Shalin Atieno stepped up to convert the penalty, giving Kayole a 1 – 0 lead. Despite it being a one-sided game, Kayole failed to capitalize on additional chances and went into halftime with just a one goal advantage.
Midfielder Hadima finally managed to put her name in the score sheet in the 51st minute when she doubled the lead. She was back again in the 76st minute, delivering a brilliant through pass to set up substitute Mellisa Vivian, who went round the goalkeeper to score.
In the 80th minute, winger Sarah Chalovu made a spectacular run past MTG’s left back, setting up Atieno for second goal of the match. Just before the final whistle, defender Shalin Njeri nearly added to the scoreline with a header but struck the post, with the game ending 4 – 0.
Speaking to Michezo Afrika after the match, Kayole coach Mary Adhiambo expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance. “Last match we didn’t convert most of our chances. Today, I made some adjustments in midfield and attack, and the forward I started gave us a brace. I am very pleased with the improvements from last match.”
Regarding her huge squad depth and selection process, she said, “It doesn’t give me headache because I am the one who signed the players and I know how, whom and when to utilize them. All the players are hardworking and committed to our objectives.”
Star of the match Nuru Hadima was all praises for her teammates, stating, “My performance was good today, and we came prepared as a team. If not for our unity, this wouldn’t have happened. After the derby loss, we sat down and decided to use it as motivation rather than let it bring us down. We have plans in place and aim to go up this season.”
