Kayange, who represented Kenya in rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics, has been a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission since the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Kenya’s rugby icon Humphrey Kayange has been elected as the new Second Vice-Chair of the International Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission, marking a major milestone for Kenyan representation in global sport leadership.
The Commission also confirmed former basketball star Pau Gasol as its new Chair, while Polish cycling legend Maja Włoszczowska was elected First Vice-Chair.
Kayange, who represented Kenya in rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics, has been a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission since the 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2022, he was appointed to the Coordination Commission for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games, and later rose to Chair of that body in 2025.
Meanwhile, Canadian Olympian Oluseyi Smith continues to play a key role within the Athletes’ Commission. He previously competed in the 4x100m relay at the 2012 Summer Olympics before switching to bobsleigh and finishing sixth in the four-man event at the 2018 Winter Olympics. He is also an alumnus of the IOC Young Leaders programme.
Wloszczowska, a four-time Olympian, claimed silver medals in women’s mountain biking at the 2008 Summer Olympics and again at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She joined the Athletes’ Commission following the Tokyo Games and was elected First Vice-Chair after the 2024 Summer Olympics. In addition, she has served on the IOC Athletes’ Entourage Commission since 2022.
