Gor Mahia vs RS Berkane match to be played at Kasarani Stadium
Gor Mahia can sigh a relief after Sports Kenya (SK) rescinded their earlier decision and allowed the 60-000 capacity Moi International Stadium, Kasarani to host the CAF Confederations Cup semi-final match against Moroccan side RS Berkane on 7th April.
In a clarification to quell the many theories especially on Social Media, Sports Kenya confirmed that the change of decision was arrived at after Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) who had booked the venue for an expo from 1st to 7th April agreed to end their event on 6th thus paving way for the historic clash.
According to SK, KAM began negotiations with SK to use the facility last year and followed up to confirm the venue by paying the requisite deposit on 6th February upon which they kicked off advertisement of their event.
Gor Mahia on the other hand wrote to SK on 26th April but were got a regret that the venue had been booked a day later. With the only other option being Nyayo Stadium which is under construction, SK appealed to KAM who heeded their request.
"We wish to appreciate KA for understanding and accepting our request to end their exhibition earlier than the planned late," wrote SK Director Pius Metto.
SK further appealed to those wishing to use their facilities to make firm commitments on time.
Gor Mahia is the most successful club in Kenya but remain without a stadium owned by the club. Their historical home is City Stadium owned by the County Government of Nairobi.
