Kamworor wins New York Marathon as Flanagan stuns Keitany
Kenya’s Geoffrey Kamworor on Sunday led a 1-2 finish during the men’s Ney York City marathon.
Kamworor, a two-time world champion in the half-marathon cut the tape ahead of the talented field with a time of 2:10:53 to finish before his compatriot Wilson Kipsang who was second with a time of 2:10:56. Ethiopia’s Lelisa Desisa was third in 2:11:32.
Kenya’s Mary Keitany was stunned in the women’s field as she failed to complete a fourth straight title in New York. Keitany finished second behind American Shalane Flanagan who ended a four-decade drought for American women in the race.
Flanagan clocked 2 hours 26 minutes 53 seconds to deny the three-time defending champion Mary Keitany and also to become the first American woman to win the race since Miki Gorman in 1977.
