Despite a 5th place finish at Dala, KCB RFC 7s head coach, Andrew Amonde, expressed confidence in his team's performance ahead of the upcoming Kabeberi 7s.
Kabras RFC emerged as the champions of the 2024 edition of the Dala Sevens, defeating Menengai Oilers RFC 22-05 in the finals on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Ingo 7s champions Kenya Harlequins secured third place with a 22-17 victory over Masinde Muliro University, who finished fourth.
Despite a 5th place finish at Dala, KCB RFC 7s head coach, Andrew Amonde, expressed confidence in his team's performance ahead of the upcoming Kabeberi 7s rugby tournament, the fourth leg of the ongoing National Sevens Circuit, set for August 24-25, 2024, in Nairobi.
KCB finished fifth at the Dala 7s in Kisumu after defeating Nondescripts 31-00 in a thrilling match at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Mamboleo.
"Unfortunately, we didn't defend our title at Dala, but there were important lessons for the boys. It's about respecting your opponents and adapting to their strengths. Onyala will join us when we return to Nairobi, and his presence will bring a different dynamic. We'll continue building through the remaining legs, and the margins aren't too far off," said Amonde.
KCB had earlier lost 05-12 to Kenya Harlequins in the main cup quarterfinals but bounced back with a 29-10 win over Nakuru RFC in the fifth-place playoff semifinal.
"We recognize the areas that need improvement as we move forward in this tournament. Our defense and attacking firepower still need work, so that's a priority before the next fixtures in Nairobi. I believe we can still win the overall title, and that's our ultimate goal," Amonde added.
After the Kabeberi 7s, the circuit will take a one-week break before resuming on September 7-8 for Driftwood 7s. The final leg, Prinsloo Sevens, will be held at the Nakuru Athletic Club on September 14-15, 2024.
