Kenya's Junior Starlets delivered a dominant 3-0 victory over Uganda, securing a 5-0 aggregate win in their FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup qualification campaign. This result puts them one step closer to a second consecutive World Cup appearance, with a crucial clash against Cameroon on the horizon.
The match began with a bright start for Kenya. Patience Asiko opened the scoring early in the 5th minute, racing onto a lofted pass, muscling off her marker and slotting the ball into the net. She almost doubled the lead minutes later but was denied by the Ugandan goalkeeper.
Uganda struggled to break down Kenya’s defense, with their best chance coming from a free kick by captain Agnes Nabukenya, which sailed over the bar. Kenya continued to dominate, with Lindey Weey Atieno testing the goalkeeper with a powerful volley and Patience Asiko creating another opportunity from the left.
In the second half, Uganda struggled to maintain possession, while Kenya remained composed, rarely allowing Uganda to threaten goalkeeper Velma Abwire. With just minutes left in the game, substitute Brenda Achieng sealed the win with a quickfire brace. She first latched onto a low cross from JoyAngela Valencia to score, before dazzling the crowd with a solo effort, weaving past three defenders and finding the net once more.
The 3-0 victory secured Kenya's progression to the final qualification stage, keeping their hopes alive for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. The Junior Starlets will now Cameroon on 18th and 21st April , 2025.
