SportPesa will sponsor a Super Cup tournament in June this year in Kenya whose winner will play English Premier League side Everton FC.
Speaking at Kasarani Stadium during the well-attended Gor Mahia vs Hull City match, SportPesa CEO Captain Ronald Karauri appreciated the historical crowd attendance and hinted on the June tournament
“I am very proud. I did not have a doubt it will happen. Kenyans love football,” Karauri said.
“In June we have the super cup, four teams from Tanzania and four from Kenya. This time Everton will not come to Kenya but the winner will travel to Goodison Park,” he added.
The inaugural SportPesa Super Cup tournament was staged in Tanzania last year with Kenya represented by Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Nakuru All Stars and Tusker FC. Gor Mahia thumped AFC Leopards 3-0 in the final to win the tournament and a chance to play Everton FC, a match that ended 2-1 in favor of the star-studded English Premier League side.
Karauri applauded the government for improving the sporting facilities in the country, a move that allowed them stage high end competitions
“We thank the government. A month ago this field [Kasarani] soil but look at it today,” Karauri further said.
SportPesa boasts of a galaxy of sponsorship deals with EPL side Everton FC, Championship side Hull City, Tanzania giants Simba and Yanga, Kenyan giants AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia and made foray into the PSL by signing a deal with Cape Town City.
The winner of the 2018 SportPesa Super Cup will play against Everton FC.
