The javelin final, set for Thursday, August 8th, will see Yego competing against some of the world's best, as he aims to add another Olympic medal to his collection
Kenya’s Julius Yego has secured a spot in the men’s javelin final at the Paris Olympics, delivering an impressive performance that has reignited hopes for a podium finish. The former world champion threw a remarkable 85.97m, earning him a season's best and placing him second in the qualifiers, just behind Germany’s Julian Weber, who topped the leaderboard with a throw of 87.76m.
Yego, who claimed a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, began his day with a modest throw of 78.84m. He then improved to 80.76m on his second attempt before launching his standout throw of 85.97m on his third attempt, securing his place in the final.
This marks Yego’s third appearance at the Olympic Games. After a disappointing finish in Tokyo 2020, where he placed 24th and failed to advance past the qualification round, Yego is determined to better his performance in Paris.
The javelin final, set for Thursday, August 8th, will see Yego competing against some of the world's best, as he aims to add another Olympic medal to his collection and reaffirm his status as one of the sport's elite.
