JUDO: Cadet, Juniors get early berths to All Africa Games
Cadet Nasongo Muchai, juniors Kimberley Ombisi and Elizabeth Raremi have qualified to represent Kenya at the 2019 All Africa Games set to be held between August 23 and September 3 in Rabat, Morocco.
Muchai won silver at the just concluded Africa Youth and Cadet Championships staged in Bujumbura, Burundi. On the other hand, Ombisi and Raremi garnered bronze medals in their category.
However, the trio did not make the cut for the Youth Olympics. They have one more stage of competition where they have to earn at least three points to qualify for the Youth Olympics.
"This is the best performance for the cadets and juniors in the longest time in Kenya's Judo history and I am happy for this achievement," said Shadrack Maluki, President Judo Association of Kenya.
In the meantime, Kenya will send nine senior judokas to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania for the East Africa Seniors Qualification tournament set for March 13. The nine will be selected during this weekend's tournament scheduled from Menengai Social Hall in Nakuru County
