James Waindi is the new Sports Journalists President
James Waindi is the new Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) President. Waindi dethroned incumbent Chris Mbaisi in a hotly contested elections held in Nairobi on Saturday.
Having twice lost the seat to Mbaisi , it was finally an opportunity for the Veteran journalist to rise to the hot seat with a 37-26 win.
The People Daily Sports Editor, Waindi, now leads a new team dubbed ‘Nguvu Mpya’ with most of the incumbent office holders having been voted out.
With 34 votes, Eric Njiru of Homeboyz Radio was voted in as the new Vice President defeating James Magayi (27) while Mukami Wambora (35) defeated Alex Isaboke (28) of Capital FM to become the new Treasurer.
Also elected in as executive committee members were Agnes Makhandia of Nation Media Group (48 votes), Charity Wanja, a freelancer (27 votes), Geoffrey Mwamburi of Citizen Radio (36 votes) and Ahmed Abulla of K24 TV (40 votes)
The Secretary General Position was however not decided at the close of elections on Saturday following the last-minute stepping down of incumbent Mike Okinyi. Another contestant for the SG Position Moses Wakhisi was knocked out on technical grounds.
The new office will immediately embark on new strategies and reforms as they start their four-year term in office.
