Hussein Mohammed Pledges Sweeping Reforms if Elected FKF President

My leadership will be one of collaboration, not fear-mongering and antagonism. For those who have thrived on intimidation, your time is up.

Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed has officially announced his candidacy to succeed Nick Mwendwa as the new President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF). Mohammed launched his bid in Nairobi this week, vowing to revive an industry that has suffered from declining fortunes over the past two decades.

However, Mohammed faces a tough battle against the incumbent, Nick Mwendwa, who has already served two terms, first winning the presidency in 2016 and securing re-election in 2020.

In the 2016 elections, where many expected Hussein Mohammed to run, Nick Mwendwa, under the "Team Change" banner, defeated his closest rival, Ambrose Rachier, The long serving Gor Mahia Chairman. Former FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya withdrew from the race just before the polls.

In the 2020 re-election, Mwendwa once again emerged victorious, outpacing his competitors, Lodvick Aduda (2nd) and Herbert Mwachiro, who finished in a distant fourth place. Mohammed, previously sidelined by the current FKF administration, was eventually allowed to participate in the Special General Meeting held in Nairobi in August 2024.

During his campaign launch in Nairobi, Hussein Mohammed has pledged to restore the excitement that once characterized Kenyan football.

In his statement, he declared, "My leadership will be one of collaboration, not fear-mongering and antagonism. For those who have thrived on intimidation, your time is up. We are stronger when we share ideas and implement them as a unit."

He also emphasized his plans to collaborate on league structures, resource mobilization strategies, and infrastructure development across the regions. Mohammed stated, "FKF branch representatives will negotiate their own deals and manage projects independently. Capacity-building initiatives across various aspects of the game will be carried out at the branch level. Thank you to everyone who attended my launch and those who followed online from around the world. Together, we will fix this game!"
