Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed has selected former Kenyan international MacDonald Mariga as his running mate for the highly anticipated Football Kenya Federation Presidential election. The announcement was made on Friday, as the countdown to the heated contest in December intensifies.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Mohammed said, “Introducing McDonald Mariga as my running mate! A son of Kenyan football, Mariga’s journey from the local streets to international stadiums shows what Kenyan talent can achieve. Now, he’s back to help build a system that nurtures the next generation right here at home. Together, we’re laying the groundwork for a Fresh Start in Kenyan football.”

His rise began in local youth soccer tournaments and high school competitions at Kamukunji High School. From there, he played in the Kenyan league with Tusker FC and Kenya Pipeline, where his talent caught the eye of international scouts. Mariga’s career took off when he moved to Europe, eventually reaching the pinnacle of club football by playing in the UEFA Champions League with Italy's Inter Milan.

Others who have already declared their interest in the elections include former Chairman Sam Nyamweya, former Kenyan Premier League CEO Jack Oguda , former international Sammy Owino ‘Kempes’ , Tom Alila, Cleophas Shimanyula among others.
According to FKF electoral board guidelines, the final list of candidates for both county and national positions will be confirmed on November 2, setting the stage for the county elections scheduled for November 9.
On November 23, the names of the 94 national delegates eligible to vote in the national elections will be published. This will take place two weeks ahead of the presidential vote, which is set for December 7.
