Her reaction said it all, from overcoming the stress of being disqualified and then reinstating her 5000m silver medal, to just making the qualification in the 1500m.
Faith Kipyegon continued her remarkable 1500m winning streak by securing her third consecutive Olympic title, a feat no other female athlete has ever achieved, cementing her status as a legend in world athletics.
In Saturday night's final, Kipyegon took the lead in the last lap to defend her title, which she had previously won in 2016 and 2020, setting a new Olympic record of 3:51.29.
"It has been a week with a lot of emotions. Tonight, it is happiness and I am proud to win my third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the 1500m."
"It's a big, big achievement. I was really looking forward to defending my title. I managed to make history. I've done it. This is an amazing honour, to win the gold medal in the 1500. It was my key target,” Faith said.
Her reaction said it all, from overcoming the stress of being disqualified and then reinstating her 5000m silver medal, to just making the qualification in the 1500m.
The incident took so much energy away from Faith who could hardly sleep. However, she knew she had her preferred 1500m race to deliver. Faith has no equal in the 1500m, a distance she has not lost since 2021.
“In the championship, it is everyone’s race. When I was on the start line, I was thinking about what happened in the 5000m. To come out and execute in the 1500m final was good. The 5000m disqualification took a lot from me. I didn’t sleep until yesterday. Today, I am going to sleep,” Faith said during the press conference.
THE QUEEN OF 1500M
