Kakamega Homeboyz scored deep into extra time to salvage a draw in the Ingo derby against their arch rivals AFC Leopards in the FKF Premier League on Saturday, December 7th,2024.
The visitors took the lead in the 34th minute with a magnificent free kick from Ochieng’ Ovella. However Potiphar Odhiambo equalized late in extra time, securing a point for level Homeboyz in a hard fought stalemate.
Leopards dominated early on and could’ve taken the lead in the 22nd minute, but Ovella’s free kick hit the crossbar. They were back again six minutes later but Homeboyz keeper made two consecutive crucial saves to deny them a goal. Just moments later, Sydney Lokale had an opportunity to open the lead but his effort went off target.
Ovella finally broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, sending AFC into the break with a 1 – 0 advantage.
The second half saw Homeboyz push for an equalizer, but Ingwe’s backline stood firm. In the 60th and 71st minutes, Ingwe goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi pulled two wonderful saves to preserve his team’s lead. Homeboyz continued their search for a goal, and their persistence paid off in the 7th minute of extra time when Potiphar Odhiambo leveled the score.
In other league action, Abud Omar scored as Kenya Police defeated in-form Mara Sugar 1-0, Sofapaka netted three second-half goals to beat Ulinzi Stars 4-1, and two first-half goals from James Kibande and John Njuguna helped Tusker secure a 2-0 victory over Mathare United.
