Kenya’s Harambee Stars suffered a 1-0 defeat to Guinea in Conakry on Thursday, leaving them with just one point after two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Serhou Guirassy scored the decisive goal in the 32nd minute as Guinea secured their first points of the campaign. The result came after Kenya opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Eritrea at Nyayo National Stadium.

Kenya remain on one point in Group D, which also includes Guinea, Eritrea and South Africa. South Africa strengthened their position at the top after a 5-0 victory over Eritrea.

Despite the results, Kenya are already guaranteed a place at the 2027 AFCON finals as co-hosts alongside Uganda and Tanzania. However, the Harambee Stars are still participating in the qualifiers, with the matches providing competitive preparation ahead of the tournament.

Only one team from Group D, apart from Kenya, will qualify for the finals. South Africa currently lead the group with six points, followed by Guinea on three, while Kenya and Eritrea have one point each.
