With the tournament now just months away, Harambee Stars are determined to make a significant impact especially in front of their home crowd, having not played at home for quite sometime.
The Kenya National Football Team, Harambee Stars, will face a tough challenge in the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to take place in August 2025. Kenya is seeded in Group A, dubbed the “group of death” by Football Kenya Federation Vice President McDonald Mariga and includes two-time champions Morocco, DR Congo Angola and Zambia.
With Morocco’s pedigree as a former champion and other strong contenders like DR Congo, Angola and Zambia, Harambee Stars will face these formidable opponents in their quest to progress beyond the group stages.
The 2024 CHAN will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Tanzania was seeded in Group B, where they will take on Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and the Central African Republic. Meanwhile, Group C and Group D are also filled with top teams vying for glory in this prestigious tournament.
Seven teams—Algeria, Comoros, Gambia, Malawi, Egypt, South Africa, and Gabon—are still in the process of securing their spots through a qualification campaign that will determine the final two teams for the tournament.
This year’s CHAN marks the first time the tournament will be held in East Africa since Rwanda hosted in 2016. The draw ceremony which was held at KICC, Nairobi , was enhanced by the presence of East African football legends including Uganda’s Hassan Wasswa, Tanzania’s Mrisho Ngasa and Kenya’s McDonald Mariga.
With the tournament now just months away, Harambee Stars are determined to make a significant impact especially in front of their home crowd, having not played at home for quite sometime. The postponement of the tournament from its original February 2024 dates has given the teams extra time to prepare.
The 2024 CHAN promises to be a thrilling competition and Harambee Stars will need to navigate their tough group if they are to make a deep run and fulfill the high expectations set for them as hosts.
