Harambee Stars to play for Kshs. 50 Million against Ethiopia
Deputy President William Ruto on Friday evening paid a visit to Harambee Stars at their training base in Kasarani as he dangled goodies to motivate the team. DP Ruto handed the team a gift of one Million shillings as motivation ahead of Sunday’s 2019 AFCON qualifier against Ethiopia.
Apart from the random gift, the Deputy President also informed the players that all their allowances will be settled after the Sports Ministry availed the remainder of the Sh25 Million budget presented for the three matches including Ghana.
He has also reiterated that his promise of rewarding the team with Sh50mn if they qualify to the Cup of Nations remains and also, the new team bus promised after last year’s CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup win will be availed.
“You all remember the promise we made last year? I am here today to tell you that the promise still remains and we will make sure that it happens. So please work hard and achieve the goal. Leave the rest to us,” Ruto said to the team after their Friday session.
“We are proud of what you have achieved so far and the work that you have put in. You have our prayers, support and good will. Please make us proud on Sunday,” he added.
Ruto also said that the coach’s salary will be availed without fail to ensure that the team is well catered for.
‘We are happy that you have come to visit us. We have had small problems here and there but we are glad that you have helped solve them and we promise to do our best on Sunday,” skipper Victor Wanyama said.
Ruto meanwhile said that the Sports Fund will be fully operational by next month saying the government is committed to ensuring sports is well funded.
