Haaland with a Brace as Manchester City Maintain Perfect Start

Brentford keeper Flekken was outstanding not to allow city to get the third goal making vital saves from Grealish, Haaland and even Savinho.

Manchester City extended their impressive start into the new season when they came from a goal down to beat Brentford. Brentford took the lead in the first minute of the match, straight from kick off but an Erling Halaand brace in the first half made sure that city was on track to get their fourth win of the season. The Pep Guardiola side are the only remaining team with a clean record of wins.

In a stunning turn of events just 22 seconds into the match, Brentford grabbed an unexpected lead. A clearance attempt by John Stones following a header from Keane Lewis-Potter was mishit and ended up across the six-yard box. Yoane Wissa capitalized on the mistake heading the loose ball into the net marking the earliest goal Manchester City has ever conceded at home in the Premier League.

Brentford nearly added another one to their tally but youngster Rico Lewis was quick to react and denied Brian Mbeumo a chance to slot it home. City then pulled level in the 19th minute when Kevin De Bruyne set up Erling Haaland for a goal. They then added another one in the 31st minute when a long ball from goalkeeper Ederson found its way over Brentford’s backline to Haaland who then put it past Mark Flekken.

In the second half, Brentford had a golden opportunity around the hour mark when Mbeumo’s perfect pass set up Lewis-Potter and Schade for a likely tap-in. Unfortunately, Lewis-Potter's shot sailed over the bar, letting City off the hook.

Brentford keeper Flekken was outstanding not to allow city to get the third goal making vital saves from Grealish, Haaland and even Savinho. Despite Haaland hitting the post and Brentford’s Yarmolyuk coming close with a shot that drifted wide, the Bees struggled to break through as City pressed for a decisive goal.

With this win, City top the league with 12 points and look set to defend their title this season while Haaland extends his season tally to nine goals in four games.
