Kenya’s representatives at the African men’s Volleyball Club Championship in Cairo Egypt, GSU and Kenya Prisons finished fifth and eighth after the tournament wrapped up on Thursday night.

GSU survived a late onslaught from Libya’s Al Ahly Benghazi before winning three sets to two in the fifth/sixth play-off while Prisons were on the receiving end of a similar result against Egypt’s Aviation in the seventh/eighth play-off.

The men from the General Service Unit seemed to be well on the way of an easy win over Libya’s Benghazi when they won the opening two sets in scores of 25-18 and 25-19.

However, they seemed to have lowered their guard in the third set allowing the Libyans to raid their territory and ended up winning 25-21. They attempted to make amends with the fourth set, but they could not master their path as the North Africans stretched them to a 26-24 win.

In the tie breaker, GSU seemed to have taken their logo ‘Fanya fujo uone’ laterally as they took command winning 15-11.

Their companions Kenya Prisons faired in an almost similar manner. After losing the first set 25-22, they came back roaring and won the second set convincingly 25-10 before replicating the same form with a 25-19 win in the third set.

However, when they only needed to maintain the same form in the fourth set to win, they were stretched to their limits and ultimately lost 28-26. With firepower down, the Egyptians, pushed by home fans won the decider 15-7.
