Despite a letter to Gor Mahia from Sports Kenya on Monday evening notifying them of the closure of the Kasarani Stadium, K’Ogalo fans have been handed a reprieve with the stadia management parastatal stating that this Wednesday’s CAF Confederation Cup game against Algeria’s USM Alger will go on as planned.
The letter signed by acting Director General Salma Ondimu had stated that the stadium will be unavailable due to damages caused on Sunday during the Hull City game where seats and other stadia furniture in and out of the premises were destroyed. The club will be fined for the damages after an asssesment report is finalised and play in an empty stadium.

“The game will go on, that is certain. This is a CAF game and we can’t afford to alter it at this point. The inspectors came and gave the stadium a go ahead so we cannot go on to close it two days to the game,” Rakki Asman who is the Communications Chief at Sports Kenya said.
He added; “It is true there were damages but we have to assess and see what the cost is then see who to bill because the game was organized by SportPesa,” added Asman.
The stadium was full to the rafters on Sunday during the Hull tie and Gor Mahia’s management has asked fans to turn out in large numbers and give the same atmosphere as they aim to down USM Alger and move top of Group D.
