Gor ready for USM Alger, fans free to attend
Fans are free to attend Gor Mahia vs USM Algers match that will be played at Kasarani
The much-anticipated CAF Confederations Cup clash pitting Kenyan champions Gor Mahia and Algerian club USM Algers will go on as planned at Kasarani, with fans free to attend the match in their numbers.
On Monday, Sports Kenya threw in a bombshell that the stadium had been closed following vandalism during Gor Mahia vs Hull City friendly on Sunday. However, after much pressure, the government caved in and allowed the match to proceed at the venue but without fans.
After a meeting between Gor Chairman Ambrose Rachier and Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, the empty stadium ban has now been lifted. Fans will be able to purchase tickets at Ksh 500 for VIP and Ksh 200 regular terraces on Wednesday.
“We had a meeting with Sports CS and we sorted the issue that was bringing a lot of confusion about the match venue, " Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier told the club website.
“The match will go on at Kasarani as earlier planned and all fans are invited to support the team in this important Caf Confederation Cup fixture,” he added.
During a pre-match conference coach Dylan Kerr declared that, Gor Mahia were ready for the battle ahead.
“We know what the match means and ours is to go for a win because if we win, we will most likely top the group. We’ve prepared well and we are ready for the challenge,” said Kerr.
On the absence of key striker Meddie Kagere who is ruled out due yellow cards accumulated, Kerr said;
“With the absence of Meddie, we have to change our system of play to make Tuyisenge and Guikan be able to work as desired. l believe in my players… this is a great chance for other players as well and l will work with the available squad.”
Captain Harun Shakava has also rallied his troops to execute the task with precision.
“It will not be an easy encounter because they are a good side but we believe in ourselves and we will stage a good show as a team to get good result,” he added.
The match kicks off at 7pm Kenyan time. USM Alger tops the group with 3 points from a 4-0 drubbing of Yanga while Gor Mahia are second after a 1-1 draw with Rayon Sports of Rwanda.
