KCB remains at the top of the table with fourteen points while Gor move to eighth with seven points.
Defending champions Gor Mahia's winning streak into the new season came to an end after they were held to a barren draw by league leaders Kenya Commercial Bank at a fully packed Dandora Stadium. This result marks the third consecutive time K‘ogalo have failed to beat the Bankers.
KCB coach Paul Odhiambo opted to maintain the same line up that started at the weekend while Gor’s Leonardo Neiva decided to shake up his squad bringing in goalkeeper Gad Mathews, Sylvester Onyango, Paul Ochuonga and three other new faces in the starting lineup.
The match started hesitantly with both teams struggling to settle and establish few consecutive passes in the game. Action picked up in the 18th minute when KCB’s Henry Onyango picked up a yellow card after a hard tackle on Austin Onyango, angering the home crowd fans.
K’ogalo had a chance to break the deadlock shortly after, but striker Gideon Bendeka failed to find the right angle to score after capitalizing on a mistake by goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo. Moments after, Gor’s Gad Matthews was caught off his line during a KCB counter attack, as Stephen Etyang skillfully dribbled past him but failed to locate a teammate in the box with the teams heading for the break at stalemate.
Gor returned from the break with renewed energy, launching a series of attacks and pinning KCB into their own half. Despite their efforts, KCB’s defense held firm resulting in a goalless draw. KCB remains at the top of the table with fourteen points while Gor move to eighth with seven points.
