Singida paid the agreed amount on November 15, 2024, but since then, the transfer has fallen through. Despite Singida requesting a refund in early January 2025, Gor Mahia has yet to respond
Kenyan football giants Gor Mahia are facing the possibility of being taken to FIFA after failing to refund a transfer fee for Harambee Stars U23 captain Ronney Onyango. In November 2024, Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars agreed to pay Gor Mahia USD 40,000 (approximately Ksh 5.17 million) for Onyango, but the deal collapsed after the player reportedly declined the move.
Singida paid the agreed amount on November 15, 2024, but since then, the transfer has fallen through. Despite Singida requesting a refund in early January 2025, Gor Mahia has yet to respond or return the money.
In a letter dated January 3, 2025, Singida stated, “Our Club wrote to your Club on the January 3rd ,2025, requesting your club to kindly refund the said amount of USD 40,000 since the transfer did not materialize due to your fault.” Singida added that no response had been received, stating, “It is unfortunate that to date we have not received any response to our letter neither have we received the refund.”
Now, Singida has given Gor Mahia a 14-day ultimatum to refund the USD 40,000 or face legal action at FIFA for breach of contract. “Failure to do so, our club will refer the matter to FIFA for breach of our agreement,” the statement concluded.
