Gor Mahia face Yanga amid Impasse

The Confederation Cup is back Live, Gor Mahia will need to put it what it take s to overcome Tanzanian Giants Yanga SC.

Gor Mahia have had very little time to rest before they return to action. Dylan Kerr's men will be back in action when they take on Tanzanian giants, Yanga SC in a pool D match of the CAF Confederation Cup on Wednesday, July 18 evening at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.

The K'Ogalo side has had tumultuous times this year with the management convening a meeting to try and end an impasse between the players and the management with less than 48 hours left to the game.

Gor Mahia players have been on a go slow, crying foul of their unfulfilled promises by the management. The giants playing line demanded to be paid part of the over KES21m the club had already received from CAF. The players claim that the management had promised to pay 14 per cent of the cash they received for making it to the second round of the competition, a promise they had not fulfilled since.

As part of the protest, it seems, Gor Mahia players ignored calls to show up on the podium for medal presentations at the CECAFA Kagame Cup an action they will have to pay for with a two-year ban from all CECAFA tournaments for unsportsmanly behaviour.

Gor Mahia will have to be in their best form if they hope to proceed to the next stage of the competition. Together with Yanga, this game will be important to both teams. Both began the campaign on a low key, but now they will have to put in everything to qualify for the quarterfinals.

CAF expressed their readiness when they appointed Somalia referee Hassan Mohamed Hagi to take charge of the match. Gor Mahia and Young Africans will need to respond in kind. The Somalia referee will be assisted by fellow Somalis first assistant Hamza Hagi Abdi and second assistant Suleiman Bashir.

The game will kickoff at 19:00 East African Time at Kasarani with tickets to the match retailing at KES200 for regulars and KES500 for VIP.

Gor are second in the pool D log on two points. A win over the Young Africans will propel them to the helm of the group depending on how Rayon Sport play out USM Alger in Kigali, Rwanda. For now, USM Alger have the advantage of being top of the group with four points.
