Gor Mahia crowned as 2018 KPL Champions
Gor Mahia crowned after a 2-2 draw against Mathare
Gor Mahia were finally presented with the 2018 Kenyan Premier League trophy on Sunday at a packed Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Sunday 30th September.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who also doubles up as the Gor Mahia patron was at hand to hand over the glittering trophy that was a culmination of good performance by the club this season. The club bagged their 17th league title with six matches to spare and will now have a go at the CAF Champions League next season for their feat.
During Sunday's game, Gor gave away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Mathare united. Rwandese Jacques Tuyisenge scored after eight minutes after beating the offside trap to calmly slot past keeper Job Ochieng. Humphrey Mieno doubled their tally seven minutes into the second half after swinging the ball home from a poorly defended corner.
Mathare clawed one goal back when substitute Klinsman Omulanga tapped into an empty net after being played through by fellow sub Daniel Mwaura. Former Gor Youth player Cliff Nyakeya drew his side level from the penalty spot after Omulanga was pushed in the back by Joash Onyango.
