Gitau to use local league for preps ahead of Club Championships

The women's Africa club competition is set for 13 to 26 May in Tunisia where Pipeline, holders KCB and Prisons Kenya are expected to represent the country.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women's league champions Kenya Pipeline begin their 2023 season this weekend with matches against Prisons Nairobi and highly improved Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The women's league scheduled to serve off at Nyayo Stadium on 25th and 26th February comes a month after the delayed playoffs that saw the oilers crowned champions, ending a five-year wait for the title.

As coach Paul Gitau prepares his charges for the new season and a title defense campaign, he says his focus is on preparing the team for a better outing at this year's CAVB Women’s Club championship.

The women's club competition is set for 13 to 26 May in Tunisia where Pipeline, holders KCB and Prisons Kenya are expected to represent the country.

“Now that we have the dates of the championship, planning our preparations has gotten better and easier. We have an explanation for everything we are doing.I know when to start loading, working on speed, strength, endurance and all that pertains our preparedness for the continental competition.” He says.

He continues to say that , " I am not counting the days to the local league but the number of days I have to prepare the team for Tunisia. The next three months ate very important for us. We ate on our toes. I want everybody to be set for the club championship. We are working to make sure the players are fit and in high spirits before heading to camp.

The last two weeks of residential camp will be for bonding and creating teamwork by understanding each other," Gitau told the club's media in a recent interview.
