Ghana Football Association (GFA) has set aside 21st and 23rd October as days of prayers and fasting for the Black Stars

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has called on Black Stars fans in the West African nation and beyond to commit themselves in prayers and fasting as part of activities leading to the national team's participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

In a notice posted on the official Ghana Football Association (GFA)  Social media pages, the Black Stars fans who subscribe to the Islam faith will have 21st October, 2022 as the day of prayer and fasting while their Christian faith believers have 23rd October,2022 as the day to seek the divine intervention

Christianity is the largest religion in Ghana, with 71% of the country's population being professing this belief while Islam ranks second at 20%. Prayers are considered a key component of the daily lives of many Ghanians.

Ghana edged out arch-rivals and West African giants The Super Eagles of Nigeria on away goal rule after holding them 1-1 in Abuja to book a slot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup

The 2022 FIFA World Cup marks the fourth time the Black Stars' appearance at the premier football competition after 2006,2010 and 2014. Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal and Cameroon make up the other African representatives.

The Black Stars missed the Semi-final by a whisker in the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa after Luis Suarez used his hand to clear a goal bound shot, earning a red card in the process but Asamoah Gyan failed to convert thus occasioning a penalty shootout that Uruguay went on to win.

The Black Stars have a chance to revenge against Uruguay as they have been pooled in the same Group H alongside South Korea and Portugal in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Former captain Asamoah Gyan featured in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups for Ghana and scored six goals in all the competitions.
