Former Kenya national soccer team head coach Adel Amrouche has been named as the new Taifa stars head coach.
In a letter signed by the federation’s communication officer Clifford Mario Ndimbo, Amrouche’s record has been sighted as among others, “an impeccable career that includes guiding Kenya to their Cecafa win and having gone for 20 matches without a loss.” The letter reads in part.
The 58-year-old Belgian of Algerian decent also previously managed Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, Botswana, Libya, and Yemen.
Initial reports had indicated Yanga’s Nasridine Mohamed Nabi was lined up for the appointment, but the Federation went ahead to make an unexpected pick, announcing Amrouche to be the best fit.
Amrouche fell out with the Kenya federation officials in 2014 after the team’s poor performance especially in a CAF Preliminary round match against Lesotho home and away, a result that saw Kenya miss out on the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
At the time of playing Lesotho, Amrouche was serving a one-year ban imposed on him by CAF following alleged indecent assault of the match officials during Kenya’s second leg first round preliminary match against Comoros.
He later sued Kenya for wrongful dismissal and demanded to be paid Ksh.108 Million.
