Former champions Lugulu storms into semis
Former champions Lugulu girls of Nzoia region booked a semi-finals berth after beating Ulanda 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-21) in a Pool “A” volleyball match at Kangaru High School in Embu on Wednesday .
This was the second victory for the 2009 champions following another commanding win over Furaha of Garissa in straight sets of 25-7, 25-3 and 25-4 in their opening Pool “A” encounter on Tuesday.
Kwanthanze also qualified for the semis after defeating Gankanga of Northern 3-0 (25-8, 25-20, 25-16) in another girls’ match in Pool “B.”
Newcomers Kosirai made a comeback to defeat Aberdare representatives Tetu 3-0 (25- 16, 25-20, 25-10) and boost their chances of a semis berth.
Kosirai must win against Gankanga today to proceed to the knock-out stage. In other matches, Ulanda of the Lake trounced St John’s Kaloleni of Mombasa 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-10) and Tetu overran Gankanga 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-19).
In the boys’ contest, Ziwani were too good for Nguutani of Northern, snatching a 3-0 victory (25- 15, 25-22, 25-17) to inch closer to the semi-finals.
Hospital Hill of Nairobi trounced Chianda of the Lake 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-20), Malava hit Ziwani 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-10) while Cheptil overwhelmed Shujaa Mekatilili 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 27-25).
