Kakamega Homeboyz are through to the Mozzart Bet Cup quarterfinals after edging Tusker 1-0 at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.
The match was a repeat of last edition's final where Homeboyz beat Tusker by a similar margin to lift their first ever major title.
18-year old midfielder Oliver Majak was the hero of the game as his first half strike was enough to grant Homeboyz the win.
Earlier on at the same venue, Sofapaka needed post-match penalties to eliminate Division 2 side the stubborn Bungoma Stars.
Sofapaka who won the shootout 5-4 had to come down twice during regular time to save themselves from going down to Bungoma who had gathered significant fame for dumping top flight teams out of the tournament.
Bungoma had taken an early lead through experienced forward Meshack Karani with Wycliffe Wanyonyi doubling the advantage later on in the half.
Humphrey Mieno and Paul Odhiambl replied for Sofapaka in the second half, forcing the winner of the tie to be determined from the spot.
Mieno, Roy Okal, Keegan Ndemi, Barron Ochieng and Jacob Onyango converted for Sofapaka.
Derrick Tekkwo, Mophat Luiva, Reagan Okoth and Reagen Osigo scored for Bungoma with Karani missing his kick.
KCB and Kenya Police joined Homeboyz and Sofapaka in advancing to the next level after winning their matches staged at the Police Sacco Grounds.
KCB beat Bidco United 3-1 courtesy of first half goals from Derrick Otanga, Philemon Nyakwaka and Haniff Wesonga.
Jacob Onyango netted the consolation goal for Bidco deep into stoppage time.
Police beat National Super League side Mombasa Stars by similar margin.
Tito Okello was on target twice with Alvin Mang'eni adding the third goal for the law enforcers.
Alvin Ngoto scored the lone goal for the second-tier side.
