FKF, Gambia Football Federation differ over friendly

The national soccer team Harambee Stars was scheduled to take on the Scorpions of Gambia in a friendly match at Marrakech, Morocco but the match was silently called off and Football Kenya Federation found a replacement.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on Friday confirmed that Kenya would play against Comoros Island and Central African Republic in Morroco on 24th and 27th contrary to earlier press statements where Gambia featured as one of the opponent.

FKF CEO Robert Muthomi reportedly told Gambia Sports that Kenya opted out after Gambia were unable to fly to Morocco.

“No, we will not play Gambia. Your guys (the Gambia Football Federation) have no money to fly to Marrakech. We got a replacement though.”

Gambia Football Federation boss Lamin Jassey however differed with Muthomi's story. He told the same publication,

“The GFF never agreed with either the Kenyan Federation or any agent. If they are claiming that we agreed a friendly game with them, then that is absolutely incorrect and the claim that we backed out for the friendly match because we have no money to fly to Marrakech, is not true.”

Central African Republic will play against Gambia  on Friday, March 23 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau before taking on Kenya’s Harambee Stars on 27th.
