Excitement Builds as Kenya Names Riders for the FIM Africa Motorcross Event

Apollo Mbuki, the national MX1 champion and a seasoned competitor will be competing for his last time and will be the teams captain in the competition.

The Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya has announced a list of 15 riders that will represent the nation in the FIM Africa Motorcross of African Nations (MXOAN) in Marrakech, Morrocco, from October 25th to October 27th.

The named squad and their categories are as follows;

  • MX1 - Apollo Mbuki (Team Captain).
  • MX50 – Leto Tohani, Jeremmy Hawi and Matt Kagondu.
  • MX65 – Armani Amani, Dylan Hatanga, Jedo Kagondu, Jayden Waweru and Lemayian Mugo.
  • MX Lite – Chemain Kangongo and Ngegi Kamau.
  • MX Lite – Fredrick Yongo.
  • WMX – Atete Benzige.
  • MX50 Women – Jematia Kangongo and Chiara Hatanga.

Apollo Mbuki, the national MX1 champion and a seasoned competitor will be competing for his last time and will be the teams captain in the competition. The team also features three female riders, Atete Benzige, Chiara Hatanga and Jematia Kangongo.

 

Atete expressed her excitement stating, ‘I am really excited and looking forward to represent the country in Morocco. The recent training camp at Jamhuri Park, led by Andre Deradan has helped me improve my jumps and cornering skills which were my weakness.”

The team received a boost when the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports confirmed a sponsorship package covering all expenses inclusive of accommodation, air ticket, bike transports, visa fees, FIM license fees, entry fees and athlete allowances. 

The competition will feature 18 African countries and will have various classes including; MX50, VMX, WMX, MX1, MX2, MX125, MXLites and MX65.
