End of the Road for Gor Mahia and Kenya Police in CAF Competitions

End of the Road for Gor Mahia and Kenya Police in CAF Competitions

Kenya Police, competing in their first CAF Confederation Cup, also saw their journey cut short. They lost both legs to Zamalek—0-1 in Nairobi and 2-1 in Cairo—falling out with a 3-1 aggregate defeat

As top teams across Africa secure their spots in the group stages of the CAF Champions League, it was a weekend of mixed fortunes. Powerhouses like defending champions Al Ahly SC, former champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and TP Mazembe all qualified after Saturday's second preliminary round.

The biggest surprise came from Luanda, where AS Maniema Union of DR Congo stunned Angolan champions Petro de Luanda to earn a historic debut in the competition.

In Kenya, both Gor Mahia and Kenya Police FC, representing the nation in CAF competitions, were eliminated in Cairo. Gor Mahia suffered a heavy 6-0 aggregate defeat at the hands of Al Ahly, with the Egyptian giants completing the job after a 3-0 win in Nairobi. In Cairo, they added another 3-0 victory to comfortably secure their place in the group stage.

Meanwhile, Kenya Police, competing in their first CAF Confederation Cup, also saw their journey cut short. They lost both legs to Zamalek—0-1 in Nairobi and 2-1 in Cairo—falling out with a 3-1 aggregate defeat.

Both teams now turn their focus back to domestic competitions, but the challenge of CAF remains a learning curve for Kenyan clubs.
