Eliud Kipchoge awarded Presidential Elder of The Golden Heart
Eliud Kipchoge has been awarded with the Elder of the Golden Heart for his heroic performance and for bringing honor to Kenya by being the first man to run a full marathon under two hours.
Kenya's highly decorated marathoner Eliud Kipchoge was on Sunday awarded Kenya's highest civilian presidential recognition with an Elder of the Golden Heart award.
The Elder of the Golden Heart of Kenya (E.G.H.) is mostly awarded to the Deputy President, The First Lady, The wife of the Deputy President, Cabinet Secretaries ,Speakers of national Parliament, Head of Public Service and the Chief of Staff of the Kenya Defense. Forces.
Kipchoge who recently made history by becoming the first man to run a 42 Kilometer marathon under two hours was feted during the Kenya national Mashujaa Day held at the Mama Ngina Water Front in Mombasa County .
The president termed Kipchoge as an exemplary athlete who has demonstrated to the world and the young that with hard work and determination , no human is limited to achieving what they set out to do.
In addition to the recent historic Ineos Marathon in Vienna, Kipchoge is the current official IAAF world marathon record holder and also the world and Olympic Marathon champion.
Also recognized during the presidential address to the nation on Sunday was Brigit Kosgei who recently broke the 16 year old women marathon record in Chicago.
