Defending champions Kakamega storm into semis

Defending rugby champions Kakamega High stormed into the semi finals of the ongoing Kenya Secondary School games with an empathic 45-0 over Alliance High at the Mangu high school on Wednesday morning.

Having won their first match against Kangaru 36-3 on Tuesday Kakamega needed a win today to book a berth in the semis even without playing their final pool match against Nairobi school.

The match was marred with early morning rains which left the pitch very muddy resulting in players experiencing difficulties in handling, navigating and holding the ball.

The champions made their intention clear with a half time 14-0 win courtesy of match top scorer Edgar Khafumi whose early try was followed with a good conversion from Bill Isabwa. Andrew Akesa increased the champions lead with the second try in the closing minutes of the half with Isabwa once again making a perfect conversion.

Khafumi who had a total of four tries in the match increased the lead to 19 immediately after the restart after a powerful ran in the flanks .Isabwa conversion went wide. Khamis Mwaka was next in the scoring lot with another well calculated counter attack which saw him overpower Alliance defenders to take the lead to 24-0 the resulting conversion by Isabwa yet again went wide.

Khafumi had to other tries for the champions with excellent conversions from Isabwa to stretch the lead for Kakamega.

Bush Sangara was on the scoring late on for Kakamega with other resulting conversions from Isabwa as the champions won the match easily 45-0. Khafumi was contended with the win saying the weather played a negative role in the days results he expect tough match in the semis.

“We played cautiously in the first half trying to study our opponents which we did . in the second half we came back stringer to win the match comfortably. Despite getting rained on the result was deserved.” Said the flanker.

In another match Kangaru defeated Nairobi school 12-0
