Defeat to Mozambique ends Lionesses AfroBasket campaign

Melissa Akinyi led the Kenyan scorers, managing 10 points but it was Natalie Mwangale who was Kenya's top performer, registering 8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals for George Mayienga's charges.

Kenya exited the FIBA Women's AfroBasket Championship after going down 72-50 to Mozambique in their pre-quarterfinal clash in Yaounde, Cameroon on Wednesday 22 September 2021. 

Melissa Akinyi led the Kenyan scorers, managing 10 points but it was Natalie Mwangale who was Kenya's top performer, registering 8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals for George Mayienga's charges.

Speaking after the game, Akinyi said, "It is a learning experience, no team is easy. We take the lessons, not the loss. 

Mayienga on his part ecohed Akinyi's sentiments, saying, "It's a new team , from the technical bench to the players. Most of the players have never been in such a championship. It is a learning experience for the technical bench and players as well."

The Lionesses were in Pool A where they lost 74-50 to Cameroon before recovering to beat Cape Verde 61-58, setting up this clash with Mozambique.
