Reports indicate that tensions began even before the match commenced as Muhoroni Youth denied Gogo’s videographer from livestreaming the match.
National Super League side Darajani Gogo staged a walk out from their match against Muhoroni Youth FC at Muhoroni on November 2nd, 2024. The walk out occurred in the 85th minute, shortly after Hillary Odhiambo gave the hosts a 2 – 1 lead, with Gogo claiming their players’ safety was at risk following the protests against the second goal.
Gogo initially took the lead through Ian Motanda in the 12th minute, but Edwin Odhiambo equalized shortly after halftime.
Reports indicate that tensions began even before the match commenced as Muhoroni Youth denied Gogo’s videographer from livestreaming the match. During the match, Gogo alleges that the match day ball boys were instructed to swap size- 5 balls to size- 4 balls, while also delaying play to Muhoroni’s advantage.
After the match stopped, Muhoroni posted on their social media, stating, “Pls Nairobi teams achene kuja Muhoroni with a fixed mind, how do you stop play that ball mmefungwa nayo ni mbaya, the same ball team yenu imefunga nayo.”
(“Please Nairobi teams, stop coming to Muhoroni with a fixed mind, how do you stop play claiming that the ball you’ve scored with is not good, the same ball your team scored with.”)
In response, Gogo made two posts on their Facebook page, calling on security to leave the place and urging Football Kenya Federation to intervene on the issue.
Got Alila as the ground is commonly referred has always been the talk of town as to the hostility visiting teams are treated. Last season, Nairobi City stars also had issues at the ground that led to then FKF CEO Barry Otieno sending a stern warning to the club and improvements that should be put into pace.
