Action between Morocco and Croatia

The North Africans had opportunities to take the lead early on but striker Youssef En-Nesryi was unable to get a decent touch onto Hakim Ziyech's dangerous cross.

Morocco were denied a win by 2018 runners up Croatia in their World Cup Group F opener on Wednesday afternoon as both sides settled for a 0-0 draw at the Al Bayt Stadium.

The North Africans had opportunities to take the lead early on but striker Youssef En-Nesryi was unable to get a decent touch onto Hakim Ziyech's dangerous cross.

In the second half Achraf Hakimi's powerful free kick was parried by Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.

Croatia, beaten by France to the 2018 World Cup title in Russia, had chances of their own, Dejan Lovren having an effort cleared off the line and Nikola Vlasic's close shot saved by the legs of Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

The Croatian's star player, Luka Modric was kept quiet by the industrious Moroccan midfield.

Morocco counted on Ziyech for inspiration and the Chelsea winger, recalled to the squad following Regragui's appointment, was their most dangerous attacking outlet in the early stages, although his good work lacked an end product.

Both sides had seven attempts at goal and just two on target and will be happy to share the spoils.
